Fundraising: How You Can Help

TommyLeave Us a Legacy ...

It is only with your help that we can complete the building of the East Kent Animal Centre and continue our vital work in animal welfare.

The East Kent Animal Centre is a major project by local volunteers to build an animal centre to help the unwanted animals in East Kent. However, we can only build in phases as money becomes available.

In addition to helping animals, the Centre will also have an education and training room so sealthat children and local people can come along to learn more about animal welfare.

As well as caring for cats and dogs and other domestic animals, the new East Kent Animal Centre will be involved with the rehabilitation of wildlife like this hedgehog and seal, both of which were rescued in Thanet and successfully rehabilitated.

A LEGACY OR BEQUEST will provide crucial funds, not only to complete the project but to ensure the Centre’s long-term future.

If you are making a Will, please remember the RSPCA Kent, Isle of Thanet Branch and the East Kent Animal Centre. hedgehogAll the RSPCA branches are separately registered charities and in Thanet we are entirely dependent on our own resources, so if you would like the animals in East Kent to benefit, please make sure that the legacy wording reads:

I give £…………..to the RSPCA Kent, Isle of Thanet Branch, Registered Charity number 209365 and express the wish that this legacy must be used solely for the benefit of the RSPCA East Kent Animal Centre.

What is Payroll Giving? ...

catIt is a simple tax effective way to support any charity of your choice. You decide how much you want to give each week or month by completing a form, you ask your payroll department to deduct your donation from your pay at source.

How does my donation reach my charity?

Your payroll department sends your total donation to an Inland Revenue approved Payroll Giving Agency which forwards your gift on to your chosen charity(ies) every month.

Gift Aid ...

catGift Aid is one of the simplest and most effective ways of giving to charity.

If you are a UK taxpaper, using Gift Aid means that for every pound you give, we will receive an extra 28 pence from the Inland Revenue. This means that a £10 Gift Aid donation, is worth £12.80 to us.

Higher rate tax payers

On top of this, higher rate taxpayers are eligible to reclaim as much as £23 from the taxman for every £100 donated to charity, by including details of their Gift Aid donations on their Self Assessment form.

CASE STUDY

This case study shows how Gift Aid is calculated:

Katie Jones makes a donation of £100 to us. We gross up the value of the gift, and multiply the donation amount by 22/78 (or 28%) to calculate the tax which can be reclaimed.

If Katie is a higher rate taxpayer, she will want to calculate the tax relief she can claim. She is eligible to claim the difference between the higher rate of tax (40%) she has paid, and basic rate tax (22%) reclaimed by the charity (40% – 22% = 18%). Therefore, Katie simply works out the gross value of her gift to the charity (£100 + £28 = £128) and calculates 18% of that figure to calculate the tax relief she is entitled to reclaim:

£128 (gross donation) x 18% = £23 tax relief to donor

So, to put it simply, Katie reclaims 23% of the cost of her initial £100 donation.

What is the Safe Haven Scheme ?

The Safe Haven Scheme is designed to enable individuals, families, organisations and businesses to sponsor an animal accommodation at the Animal Centre. The donors' contributions go directly to the running costs of keeping animals at the centre before they are re-homed.

How much can I donate ?

The scheme is a flexible and easy to join; just choose the animal unit you wish to sponsor and the payment method, we do the rest. You can pay with a single donation or by monthly standing order, spending as much as you can afford. Your donation will go directly to the upkeep of your chosen animal's living space.

We will reward your kindness by:

  • Displaying your name on the animal unit or in the Animal Centre
  • Mentioning your support on our website, with a link to your website if you are a business.
  • Sending you a twice-yearly newsletter.
  • Giving you a Safe Haven certificate.
  • Inviting you to Branch events.

Can I make a gift of my sponsorship ?

Of course. Sponsoring one of our animals through the Safe Haven scheme can make a excellent gift. Simply tell us who the gift is for when filling in the sponsorship form which will be available soon.

Where is my donation spent?

Your donation goes directly to helping the animals in the care of the animal centre.

All sponsors are assigned an animal unit and their details displayed on the habitat for regular sponsors and elsewhere for one off sponsors. Their donations then go directly towards the care of all the occupants of that space during the period of the sponsorship. Sponsors can vary the amount donated or the type of accommodation sponsored at any time.
